Story
Hi All,
Firstly, thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
At the end of 2014, I decided that I needed to take on a major challenge which would involve pursuing my lifetime ambition of going to Peru to see one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, which is Machu Picchu.
As most of you are aware this will be such a personal expedition for me to undertake and also give me an insight to how my ancestors once lived. I will be doing the Inca Trail which will entail high altitudes and steep pathways not to mention the miles I will be covering over the four days. In addition to this personal achievement I wanted to support a cause which is close to my heart and raise awareness of their incredible work.
'The Stan Bowley Trust' is my chosen charity which was founded in 2008, in response to Alan "Stan" Bowley receiving life saving Cyberknife Radio surgery in the US.
Cyberknife Robotic Radiosurgery is a non -invasive alternative to surgery for the treatment of cancerous and non- cancerous tumours anywhere in the body. This treatment which delivers beams of high dose radiation to tumours with pin point accuracy can offer less damage to the tissue surrounding the tumours so that recovery periods are shorter and the quality of life during and after treatments is improved.
The charity's aim is to raise funds for Cyberknife, cancer radiotherapy treatment to be made available to residents in the North West and the Midlands. Money raised will also be given to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to help with clinical trials so the findings can be put to the NICE, in hope that it will go on the NHS approved list.
On 1st February I have signed up to the London Winter Run (10k) and on 3rd October I will travel to Peru to embark on my final challenge. So please sponsor me as much as you can as I hope to make this year a memorable and rewarding experience in my life.
I would appreciate any support no matter how big or small. It will all make a difference.
Lastly, I just want to thank my family and friends who have already sponsored and donated towards a worthy cause.
Thank you xx - Lucy - xx
