Story
On 9th October 2019 I was driving home from work when I was hit by another car driving the wrong way on my side of the road. He was asleep at the wheel. The Devon Air Ambulance flew me to Derriford hospital in Plymouth, saving my life as the internal injuries I had meant I could have bled to death if we had travelled by road. In fact, the surgeon at Derriford said my injuries were so severe that he wouldn't operate and I would never walk again.
Of course, I told him what I thought of that and after 2 weeks in traction, along with another surgeon, he operated for 7 hours to repair all the damage. I am titanium, well I am from my pelvis down to my ankle!! I spent almost 5 months in hospital and returned home, sort of walking, using a zimmer frame. I've had lots of fantastic support since I've been home which I'm grateful for and I'm incredibly grateful for all the help I received in hospital.
If it wasn't for the heroes volunteering with the Devon Air Ambulance Trust I wouldn't have needed the help in hospital because I wouldn't have made it.
I appreciate everyone who donated to my 144 steps challenge last year. I wasn't planning to do another fundraiser but talk of my birthday came up and I said I wanted to get to the top of Glastonbury Tor one more time. Then a light bulb went off and here I am, hoping to raise money for the Devon Air Ambulance again. So, thank you, in advance. Blessed be.
