Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving Page.
I chose to support the UK Sepsis Trust and undertake their trekking challenge, after reading another devastating story on how sepsis had been the cause of death for a young woman. Sepsis is the cause of death for 44,000 people per year in the UK and is the most preventable cause of death and disability.
Sepsis can occur as the result of any infection and is the body's overwhelming and life-threatening response to infection that can lead to tissue damage, organ failure and death. Over the next few months of fundraising, I will be doing all I can to promote the work of this charity and support their campaign to save lives by encouraging us all to ask: “Could it be sepsis?”
As a family we know how essential it is that the signs of sepsis are recognised, so that life-saving treatment can be provided. This was the case for our daughter in 2014, who survived sepsis, due to the excellent care provided by the local GP surgery, the Emergency Department and Children’s Intensive Care Unit. I feel so passionately about supporting this charity, which urgently needs funding to train the public and to educate the healthcare community on how to spot sepsis quickly.
I will be trekking 5-8 hours a day for eight days, with group members that have survived sepsis themselves or someone close to them has, or have lost a loved one to sepsis.
Thank you for supporting me in raising money for the UK Sepsis Trust.
