Story
On Saturday 20th February I’ve decided to set myself a challenge to try and raise money and awareness around a charity and subject that’s very close to my heart! I’m going to cycle for 12 hours straight on my beloved peloton bike - from 6am - 6pm (I will have wee breaks don’t worry). Some of my House of Lemon acts will be joining me on Zoom during the day to play some music alongside me and encourage me along!
When I was 25 I had my first smear test and it came back as severely abnormal. The years that followed saw me having various surgeries and procedures and in 2015 having to have a hysterectomy. If I hadn’t have had my smear test when I got that first letter I’m not sure where I’d be, but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have my two girls.
I keep reading stories about women putting off their smears due to covid or not pushing for a smear if they are having symptoms. I feel really strongly that awareness needs to be raised around this and even more right now - it’s still really important to keep up to date with your smears.
How can you help:
- You can donate to the amazing charity, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust here .
- You can help raise awareness by sharing what I'm doing and why.
- You can remind all the ladies in your life to keep up to date with their smear tests.
- You can come and cheer me on via livestream on the 20th Feb! I'm gonna need all the support I can get!!
