Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Leonardo Devlin, our great nephew, is an adorable, happy go lucky and laid back 4 year old who was diagnosed in 2014 with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. In short, Duchenne is a very rare, fatal muscle wasting disease. Nardo’s body can’t produce dystrophin, a protein needed to build muscles; as a result Nardo will experience a progressive loss of function as every muscle in his body deteriorates. Most boys don't make it past their late teens or early twenties.
There is currently no treatment, there is no cure. This isn’t something we can “kiss & make better”. At age 4 Nardo is just that bit weaker than last year when we held the cake sale for the first time.
We have to believe that one day we might be able to help make him and others better; by channelling funds into research we hope that one day the conversation his parents have with Nardo will change, that they will be able to tell him that he "used" to have Muscular Dystrophy.
Money raised so far has helped fund the research as well as put better infrastructure in place to allow more and better trials to be run. It is a race against time and the faster drugs can be evaluated the sooner a treatment for all those with Duchenne can be found.
All donations goes to Harrisons fund where they put as much money as possible into the hands of the best researchers in the world. Please donate to this cause, and by doing this it allows you to take part in the raffle that will be held on the day of the cake sale, just please state if you would like a raffle ticket and your name will be added into the pot. Every £1 you donate will give you a raffle ticket, to win some fantastic prizes. And we hope you can turn up on the day to buy some yummy cakes and help raise money to find a cure for Nardo and other boys just like him.
