We sadly lost Douglas Batty (Husband, Father of 4 children, Grandad & Great Grandad) to lung cancer in November 2011 after battling with this illness for a short period. During his illness we felt helpless, not knowing what to do or how to help. This is where Macmillan comes in. They are the people who are experts in helping those who have been told they have cancer. They care with professionalism and dignity, 97% of their income comes from donations. The support they provide is practical, whether it be in the shape of end-of-life palliative care, or direct financial support to those with cancer and their families. I'm sure all of us know someone close to us who lost his or her life for cancer or have been affected by cancer. As we saw Doug losing his fight to cancer, we felt powerless but wanted to do something. The only answer we could find was by running a marathon to try to raise money and more awareness of the impact of this illness that can strike anyone of us at any time when we never expect it… so WE can all help to fight this disease.

It costs £20 an hour for a Macmillan nurse but the support they give to people facing the end of their life, is priceless. A donation will support someone - and their families - suffering pain and grief. Your support can make an enormous difference.
