Rather than take the 2hr 4min train to Manchester I'm racing to get home from London in time for Christmas using canal towpaths. 

It was -13C overnight when I left last week and I've passed several makeshift shelters so far.

Total distance from the Thames to Deansgate Locks is 227 miles.
