Story
MY MAIN PURPOSE is to raise funds to support vulnerable women and children in Sri Lanka. I've visited Sri Lanka yearly since 2013 to volunteer and fundraise for the non-government organisation, Women's Development Centre, which has been in operation for over 40 years and is now at a critical juncture due to their main funding streams drying up. The WDC works tirelessly to:
- End violence against women by providing safe spaces and advocating for them
- Promote gender-equality, helping women to make independent life choices
- Encourage women to take part in local government and community decisions
- Help vulnerable and socially challenged children and families in the region
The impact they are making is phenomenal and I witness this personally every time I visit. My concern now is that this will end if they cannot pay their staff and running costs to continue their incredible work.
Over the past 13 years I've raised tens of thousands of pounds through local UK fundraisers and through specific trek challenges that I've completed but this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what is needed for WDC to continue their work.
