Story
Hi All,
So I have decided to run the Royal Parks Half Marathon.
As you may know I was quite anti sport & exercise for a long time, but changed my mind on the matter quite abruptly over the last year or so. So I thought running a half marathon would be a good way to really cement this new habit, and at the same time get in everyone's faces about it! :)
As is customary, I am running for charity. I took the choice of charity very seriously, because I know that the cost effectivness of charities can vary HUGELY.
During my research I came across two excellent sources, both of which look at the effectivness of charity; http://www.givewell.org/ & http://www.givingwhatwecan.org/.
The reason I am going on about this is so that you know that I have done the leg work to ensure that the effort that I put in to my fundraising, and the money that you will hopefully donate will go on to do as much good as possible.
So I chose Doctors of the World as my charity, since they follow the two most important principles:
1) They mainly work abroad in the developing world - where money donated goes a lot further than in the UK or the rest of the developed world
2) Their programmes are exclusively focusing on health care - people need to be alive and not debilitatingly sick, before any other problems can be tackled
If you wish to know more about their work, look here.
