Story
So in mid-April this year my wonderful wife Christine Pryce noticed that Guildford Lions Club were holding a free PSA testing day to check men over 50 for prostate cancer. Given that my dad Joseph Pryce had previously had prostate cancer we thought I should be tested. Guildford Lions Club had a fantastic turn out that day with over 150 men attending the event.
A week or so later the results came in, unfortunately my PSA result was 22 which was very high. (4 is normal for men in their 50’s). Slightly shocked I made an appointment to see my GP who confirmed I had an enlarged prostate and put me on a fast track to see the specialist at RSCH. I must say every nurse, doctor, specialist and consultant I met at the hospital were fantastic. After a few tests I was diagnosed with an aggressive prostate cancer and in just 10 weeks from my original diagnosis I had my prostate removed. We are very lucky having one of the best (if not the best) centers for this in the country at RSCH.
Thankfully everything seems to have gone extremely well.
I have decided this year as a thank you to everyone that has helped me on this journey to do some fund raising. I will be growing a Mo for Movember in aid of The Prostate Project ‘Fabulous Fit-out’ Appeal. If you can make any donation it would be very much appreciated. Finally any male friends over 50 please get yourself tested. I didn’t have any symptoms of this disease so please have a test.
