Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm supporting a charity who are local to where the event is taking place- The Pickwell Foundation. The Pickwell Foundation are raising funds to support a displaced Syrian family to resettle in Georgeham and find a place of safety. We have all seen the devastating images and footage of the Syrian Refugee crisis and have felt completely powerless and useless, that's why I'm happy to support the Pickwell Foundation in their work.
Please see below a statement from the Pickwell Foundation:
"The 'Georgeham Community Sponsorship Group' are a community group from the parish of Georgeham and Croyde, who have been accepted through the government’s Community Sponsorship Scheme, to sponsor and support a family from Syria to settle in Georgeham. We started off as two different groups of people - a book group and a faith-based group that both found ourselves talking about the Syrian refugee crisis and how powerless we felt. A few group members heard about the Community Sponsorship Programme, and we decided to look into what becoming a sponsorship group might entail. So far we have secured a property in Georgeham, which the group will rent for the family, and we have got NDDC (North Devon District Council) approval to go ahead, we are currently in the process of putting in our final application and will (hopefully) receive the stamp of approval from the Home Office. The aim of the group is to give one family in need the same chance of peace, freedom and security that lots of us enjoy. To sponsor a family, the Government stipulate that we need to raise £9000 that will act as a buffer for the family, pay for set up costs and pay for their English lessons. We would love you to support us by donating here. Thank you"
