Story

I grew up in a family with the inclination and means to nurture my dreams. My aspirations were supported. And with that foundation I was eventually able to purchase the land that is now the Mathis Vineyard, producing award-winning Grenache-based wines.

When I got out into the world, however, I realized not everyone had those same opportunities and good fortune. The playing field is decidedly not level for people of color. This is where A Better Chance comes in to fill that gap.

Since 1963, A Better Chance's mission has been to increase substantially the number of well-educated young people of color who are capable of assuming positions of responsibility and leadership in American society. Each year, the organization provides opportunities for 500 students at 300 of the nation's most competitive college preparatory schools. To preserve these opportunities for the next generation, A Better Chance needs your support on GivingTuesdayNow. Set for May 5th, GivingTuesdayNow is a worldwide day of support to nonprofit organizations to respond to the challenges caused by the global pandemic. A Better Chance asks you to join them as they set an ambitious but necessary goal of $40,000 to ensure the retention of their already placed Scholars and critical adjustments to their programming. With your assistance, A Better Chance can keep the doors to educational opportunity open.

FYI - Mathis Wine is donating 3-bottle wine gift packs to donors at the Dream Builders level  ($1,200 - $4,999) For details: https://www.abetterchance.org/support/donate
