Fundraising for Blood Cancer UK
Story
Tanzania is firmly on the red list so the rescheduled June 2021 trip is yet again rescheduled now for June 2022, a huge disappointment for everyone but just give us more time to raise funds for the crucial research. Team Plumridge will attempt to climb Mt Kilimanjaro for Blood Cancer UK. The team is Mel Plumridge, Emma Plumridge, Katie Plumridge, and Sarah Plumridge
We are raising money for Blood Cancer UK because Mel has Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia which is an incurable form of blood cancer. He was diagnosed in 2013 with treatment in 2017 and is currently in partial remission. The aim of Blood Cancer UK is to find a cure for his and all other blood cancers. 2020 will mark 60 years of Blood Cancer UK and also 60 years of Mel Plumridge and therefore a suitable occasion for this landmark challenge.
Team Plumridge have undertaking a series of events and challenges in 2019 all leading to the mega challenge of Kilimanjaro in 2020 with the aim to raise in excess of £4350 for Blood Cancer UK.
Importance of funding Blood Cancer UK
Mel is on a trial treatment at the moment which is working very well, but at some time in the future it will not. So like many others living with blood cancer it is imperative we find a cure for all 137 types of blood cancer. Blood cancer is the 3rd highest cancer killer, and is above both breast and prostate. It will impact 1 in 16 men and 1 in 22 women and typically is indiscriminate in terms of lifestyle. The research into blood cancers funded by Bloodwise not only is beneficial for blood and other cancers, but has also resulted in improvements in anti rejection treatments for transplant patients and even into new treatments for HIV victims. There are 240,000 people living with blood cancer in the UK with 104 being diagnosed every day, and they are all looking for that cure.
