Story

A group of staff and students from the Materials and Engineering Research Institute (MERI) at Sheffield Hallam University will be walking the 15 mile Sheffield Round Walk on Saturday 30th June in memory of their friend and colleague Professor Chris Breen.

Chris sadly passed away in February this year shortly after being diagnosed with amyloidosis, a rare, serious, and currently incurable, condition caused by a build-up of an abnormal protein called amyloid in organs and tissues throughout the body.

We will be raising money for the UCL Amyloidosis Research Fund, which funds research and development of new treatments for amyloidosis which have made enormous contributions to understanding of the disease and to improved outcomes for patients. You can find more information about amyloidosis research at: www.ucl.ac.uk/amyloidosis/research

Chris had been part of MERI since its inception in 1990 and his friendship, support and leadership is greatly missed by all who worked with him.  We hope that this event will honour his memory at the same time as raising money for a great cause.
