70Hours 22Minutes and 14.4Seconds

3 Hills and 498 Miles

How hard can it be? Add 27 degree heat and the fact that one of the hostels didn't let us in and it was hard, but 9 of us made the finish line.

We were really fortunate to have a first rate back up crew, who worked even harder than we did and it was them that found us the 1Hour and 38 minutes that ensured we completed the challenge, so a massive thank you to everyone involved.

We are still short of our target and will continue to fund raise until we get there so please dig deep and lets help those who continue to come home injured.  The Royal Welsh Fusilers took a hammering this week and our thought go out to them.

Thank you for your continuing support

Ollie is on the left of the photo and Sam is on the right. The photo was taken just a few days before both were killed.

Over the last year a massive team has helped organise this event.  It is not just the riders.

MacNeillies, our main sponsor have pulled out all the stops and without them everything would have been in vain.  Their associates and partners have dug deep supplying us vehicles and equipment and to everyone else that has made donations I am eternally in your debt.

This is about getting money to help those who have made it home, but for them life will never be the same.

We leave London on Monday morning and start the event on Tuesday.  The weather is awful with snow on all the peaks and "The Ben" has saved up all year and deposited huge amounts of snow at the summit.  Ollie would have loved this.

Almost certain failure and the slimmest chance of success.  What more could a Boot Neck have asked for?

Thank you to everyone and good luck for those mad enough to have come along for the ride!

Ollie Augustin was my nephew. Aged just 23 he was a Lieutenant with Juliet Company, 42 Commando Royal Marines.

On 27th May 2011 he was on patrol with members of the Fire Support Team when he was caught in the blast from an IED and instantly killed.  He died along side Marine Sam Alexander MC.

Two other Royal Marines were seriously injured in the same blast.  Both have had their lives changed beyond anything most of us will understand.  Having now met them both on several occasions their positive outlook and can do attitude is inspirational.

A total of 7 Royal Marines were killed during Operation Herreck 14 and a further 45 sustained serious injuries.

Combat operations will continue until 2014 at the earliest. Our troops are there to ensure our safety here.  Lets do more than just say we support them.

Over the last 4 years I have been lucky enough to work with a truly dedicated team of Metropolitan Police officers.  We have taken part in numerous charity events and raised over £10k for military charities.

For 2011 we had planned to take part in the traditional 3 Peaks Challenge.  For those of you who have never heard of it, this event normally starts by climbing Ben Nevis, being driven to Keswick and climbing Scarfell Pike and then finally being driven to Snowdon and climbing Snowdon. This is all completed in 24 hours.  For those of you who have taken part, you will know how challenging it is?

However we wanted to exceed our previous collections totals and decided that we needed to make it extreme. So we decided to cycle the 498 miles between the peaks.  This has also been done before, so we added a time limit of 72 Hours from start to finish.

The date is now set and the challenge will commence on Tuesday 22nd May 2012.

3 Days, 3 Peaks and just 498 miles.  How hard can this be?

Why the Royal British Legion 2012 Poppy Appeal?

The RBL are one of the traditional military charities who this year celebrated 90 years of helping our ex service personnel.  They have just pledged to donate over £50 million to help build and run regional rehabilitation centres.  It means that the injured will not have to travel to Surrey for their treatment at Hedley Court and can remain near their all important families.  It will mean that the families will not be separated yet again whilst their husbands, wives, sons and daughters have to go away again.

£50k against £50 million.  It is drop in that ocean, but it will make a difference.

We will shortly be running an appeal across the Metropolitan Police to try and get just £1 from every member of staff.  This alone will raise the amount required, but the more we can give, the more the RBL can do.  The 2011 poppy appeal raised just over £27.5 million.  We want to start the 2012 appeal to ensure that this figure is exceeded with ease.

So please dig deep and donate now.
