As I'm sure most you know Sam was very badly burned by a cup of tea when he was two. He was left with scars on his chest, shoulder and arm that will be there for the rest of his life. The initial help he received from the Broomfield Hospital Burns unit was amazing. Once he had finished his medical care we were put in touch with the Children's Burns Club who have helped all of us deal with what happened to Sam and how it will effect him for the rest his life. They connect people in a similar situation as us who in turn share their experiences and help each other. They also help the children deal with their injuries and how to handle things like questions from their peers at school and coping with body image issues with a wonderful team of volunteers and councillors. They also help the parents cope with the trauma hat they have seen their children go through and confront their own feelings of guilt etc. That's just my take.

The Burns children's Club is a charity that offers support to young burn survivors and their families to help them come to terms with burn trauma and altered body image, this support helps to build self esteem, confidence and expectations after a burn injury and creates a place where children and parents don't feel judged. The burns Club organises day trips, Camps and support groups that are a much needed support network for children and their families who have been through similar experiences.
