Devon Air Ambulance Trust - Royal Marines Commando Challenge - October 09 · 10 October 2009 ·

Devon Air Ambulance Trust is the charity that raises the funds to keep Devon’s two air ambulances flying and fleet of Critical Care Cars responding. We can only be there for those in need, with your continued kindness and support. Together, we are Devon Air Ambulance.

Story

Left or right? No question, we're going right. Left is for losers. It's the Commando Challenge.

For those of you who don't already know, this Sunday seven of us will run, climb, slip, slide and snorkel our way around the Royal Marines Commando assault course at Bicton Arena in Exeter.

Are we doing the 4k 'fun' challenge? No. It's full Marine distance - 10ks of mud, walls, mud, the sheep dip, more mud and that tunnel. And it's forecast rain. Great.

Why are we doing this? Well, we all have our own reasons...

Me - if I hadn't been a planner, I'm pretty sure I would have been a Commando.

Hugh - he wasn't quite so lean back then and he needed a 'goal'

Claire 'I need a new challenge' Morison - say no more.

Jo - rowing across the Indian Ocean wasn't enough.

Mark - we told him he could be a 'Marine' for the day and my god he was excited. He's not aloud in the real navy poor lad.

Julia - one of those 'because it's there' types.

Amy - to be honest, we're not sure why Amy is doing this but we're glad she is. She's the only one we're confident about lifting over the wall.

So that's us. We're a team. We have to be a team because only the time of the last person counts - no point the 'fitties' buggering off in front.

The last word goes to our charity. The Devon Air Ambulance. It can reach anywhere in Devon in 15 minutes. It saves countless lives every year. It costs £4 million a year to run. It doesn't receive a single penny of government or National Lottery support. Its a political slap in the face. Its a bloody good cause.

So, please wish us luck and give as generously as you feel able. We promise the photos will make you laugh.

Thanks.

Mike, Hugh, Claire, Amy, Jo, Mark and Julia.
