Michael, Joanne and Charles Nell and family friend Patrick Hoey will be walking a long-distance route starting from Ilam Hall in Staffs, linking the Limestone Way and then Pennine Way to finish just over the Scottish border at Kirk Yetholm, Roxburghshire. The route is a new one, hinted at by the late A.Wainwright, who says in the introduction to his 1968 guide to the Pennine Way, "the route is in fact....only partly a Pennine Way. A true Pennine Way would lie along the full length of the Pennine range, and would have better suited the name had it been given the glorious entry to the hills provided by charming Dovedale as its starting point". That's what the team are doing, but it adds another 50 or so miles to the existing Pennine Way route, making a total of 320 miles and 30,000 feet of climb.
