Story
Mission Aviation Fellowship is a Christian organisation. Their mission is to operate light aircraft in remote places where flying is not a luxury, but a real lifeline.
On board these aircraft are dedicated teams bringing medical care, supplies & Christian hope to communities struggling to survive amidst poverty, conflict or natural disaster.
Flying across deserts, jungles, swamps & mountains, they reach places that might otherwise remain cut-off because of impassable or non-existent roads.
MAF is a UK registered charity & the overseas operational work & support services is funded by voluntary donations. By supporting MAF, you are supporting people in need around the world.
On the 31st of October 2010 I will be taking part along with 2 friends in the most historic of all Marathons. Athens will celebrate the 2500th Anniversary of the battle of Marathon.
Among all the Olympic sport events, the Marathon race stands out as it was born by a true historic & heroic event.
A Greek soldier known as "Pheidippides" was sent from the battlefield of Marathon to Athens to announce with his last words, the victory of the Greeks against the Persians during the Battle in 490 BC.
In 1898 the historic route was run again as the first Marathon of the modern Olympic era. In 2004 the Olympic Marathon returned to the classic route.
This for me is a great personal challenge & an opportunity to help disadvantaged communities through any donations you give.
