Chill Swim: Windermere 2023 · 2 September 2023 ·
Michelle and Cat have taken on the challenge of swimming a mile across lake Windermere in June. To succeed, they will be undertaking regular training on top of their day jobs and busy personal lives.
Windermere is probably the most famous lake in the Lake District, As the longest natural lake in England; it is a well known spot for open water swimming. Despite the stunning scenery, the swim won't be an easy one, but Cat and Michelle are determined to don their wetsuits and take on this challenge for the Care Workers Charity - a cause close to both of their hearts.
About the Care Workers Charity
The Care Workers Charity aspires to a UK where no care worker faces financial hardship alone and where their cause is championed both in and outside of the sector. There are almost 2 million care workers in the UK. They provide vital and life enhancing care for some of the most vulnerable people in our society with little recognition and often no reward.
Care workers face challenges every day such as loss of income, inconsistent hours, consequences of low recruitment and retention and lack adequate resources to help care workers do their job to the best of their ability. The Care Workers Charity supports care workers by providing Crisis grants to people experiencing unforeseen or life changing circumstances, such as bereavement, illness or injury and who has no resources to meet associated costs which could include funeral expenses, moving home, travel to hospital expenses, home repairs. The Charity also provided a much needed Covid-19 Emergency Fund to those who experienced a loss of income due to self-isolation, as well as vital Mental Health Support to offer care workers struggling with mental health free treatment with qualified therapists.
