Story
This site is for donations to St Leonards Hopsice.
As a tribute to our recently deceased colleague, Berni Strongitharm, the Technology Facility is arranging for a memorial bench to be installed near the Biology Department.
The Department has generously agreed to pay a third of the cost of the bench. As a way of raising the rest of the money, the TF came up with...
THE IRONLEGS CHALLENGE!!!
The challenge is a 100 km cycle ride by Mick Miller - a car junkie for 20 years and staunch opponent of physical exercise – from his home in Leeds to the Department. Mick will be accompanied by more experienced cyclists Jerry Thomas and Jared Cartwright, who will provide encouragement and support. In order to give him a fighting chance, Mick's performance will be enhanced by having "go-faster" stripes shaved in his hair. (Really!) Jared and Jerry will be suitably handicapped by riding their commuting bikes with saddlebags full of rocks and wearing medieval hair shirts complete with body lice. (Probably not.)
The ride will take place on Tuesday 4 October. Along with the sponsored ride, the TF will hold a bake sale in the atrium starting at 10:30 on the 4 October to raise funds for Berni's memorial. The riders are aiming to arrive in the atrium by 11 a.m. in time to consume any remaining cake. Any money left over after paying for the bench will be donated to St Leonards Hospice, who did a really fantastic job of looking after our friend Berni.
