Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Last year my wife and I bought Adam a drive in an Aston Martin DB7 for his birthday. He has finally repaid the complement and entered me free of charge for the Hinckley Half-Marathon!

As a result this weekend will see me thundering around the leafy country lanes near Market Bosworth in an attempt to complete my first ½ marathon in 22 years.

. . . . . At this point I would ask you to hold the first thought that occurred to you when you read the above. All will become clear.

It will not be the first time that this somewhat portly middle-aged man will travel from point to point drinking at every opportunity and finishing off with a bite to eat, full of carbs. But, in keeping with the ‘do something different’ theme, there is no beer involved this time and the aim is to keep moving – preferably ahead of the sweep up bus. I will be the first to admit that it is going to be a challenge . . but I’m up for it.

If this all sound a bit flippant, believe me I am taking it seriously. Training is going well having watched the London Marathon, the English X-Country Championships and re-runs of Chariots of Fire on TCM.

As I need a reason to get beyond the 3 mile point, I have decided to sponsor a charity very close to my heart, BLESMA, the British Limbless Ex-Servicemans Association.

This is not one of the high profile charities that you hear about all the time but they do a fantastic job and sadly have never been more in demand than they are today.

Back to your first thoughts, I have devised a ‘cunning plan’ which should allow your honesty, integrity and let’s face it, guilt, to help me in this quest .

If it was:

Your thoughts

The going rate is

Ha ha ha,

£2

He’s ‘avin a laugh, kidding, clearly drunk; what’s he on?

£2

He wouldn’t run for a bus

£3

Your son is a git

£3

Idiot, fool, crazy, numpty

£3.50

No chance – too many pies, too much beer, his silhouette is too big

£4

He’s too old (ouch!)

£5

I like Adam's style

And the unlikely ones:

£250

Good man, good on you, hurrah, damned good show, my hero

Whatever you wish

As I said, let your conscience be your guide. You cannot undo your first thoughts! J
