Mom entered Hospice in December of 2018. When I asked her if she wanted to stop being pushed to get stronger and eat more, she said "yes". I asked her if she wanted more visitors to come to see her and she said: "as long as they are interesting, I can't have boring people."

While mom's health was declining over the past few years, I was unable to ride my bike or cross-country ski. So to honor and remember her, I am riding my bike and skiing again. I want it to be more than just about me. I want it to be for Hospice because of the excellent care they gave my mom. 

I am not only her daughter but I am a Hennepin Healthcare Hospice nurse and I understand what it means to be supported and give support through Hospice. A lot of the services, such as massage, music, and pet therapy, and all the little extra things depend on donations. 

Mom herself donated her body to the Mayo Anatomical Bequest Program to help educate medical students. After one year they are planning on having a ceremony thanking us for her donation. My goal is to raise money until that ceremony and maybe beyond. 

So far this summer I have ridden 98.6 miles since mom's memorial service. For the next year, I plan to donate $1 for every mile I ride (or ski) to Hennepin Healthcare Hospice.
