1 Mile per donator in aid of GOSH · 3 August 2019

We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

Hello!

I am going to be doing a long-distance walk to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital. The distance I walk will be based on the amount of donators, so if 30 people donate, I will walk 30 miles. 1 donator = +1 mile to the total of the walk.

For as long as I can remember I have lived with a 9-inch scar across my stomach. That is because when I was 7 and a half weeks old I suffered a diaphragmatic hernia. Google images will be better at explaining what this is than I can. The frequency of that occurring in babies is around 1 in 2000-5000. I was very sick and was close to dying before I could even hold my head up.

To cut a long story short, due to complications, my local hospital were unable to treat me (I don't know fully what those complications were) and so had to call around multiple hospitals in the area to see if they could take me. This was unsuccessful and time was ticking away until a phone call was returned, and Great Ormond Street were on the line saying that they had 'a bed' and to send me to their Hospital to be operated on. I was rushed to Holborn and they operated.

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is a hospital whose patients are severely ill children and babies. It’s a hospital that without being around I too would not be. GOSH are the reason I am alive and I want to give back to them.

As I have grown up and older and especially since my mum passed away in 2013, I have noticed my gratitude for life and the people in it has sky rocketed. I am so grateful for the family I have and the friends I have and I guess they must be grateful to have me in their life too! But all the gratitude and thanks needs to be given to GOSH at some point and now is that time. Without GOSH I would not be here, no one would've met me apart from my closest family members and I would not of been known outside of them.

I hope you donate and stick a mile on my tally, but if not I hope you have enjoyed reading my story either way. Thank you so much, I am really excited to do this walk.
