Story

About me:

Hello! My name is Mram, I’m 19 and I’m currently studying biochemistry at the University of Glasgow. I have no previous athletic experience however I’ve set myself the challenge of running 25km every week (5k every-weekday) until I reach 100km to raise money for a charity called IPA (Innovations for Poverty Action). I have researched this charity and the work they do really resonates with me and so if it does you too any support would be greatly appreciated.

Why this cause?

It is no surprise that lockdown has been difficult for everyone. An emotional and mental rollercoaster. Every day is groundhog day. I myself had fallen victim to the anxieties it played on my head and have often found myself complaining about how awful everything is. The truth is that although it has been a struggle I have realised that I have been so fortunate in many ways. I’m so blessed in the sense that at the end of the day - no matter how dull life was - I've had a roof over my head, my bed and access to food. I admit I may have been a bit mad we ran out of the Cadbury mini pots of joy by day two, but my basic necessities have always been met.

That is not the case for everyone around the world though. In fact, prior to any pandemic, there are individuals who suffer daily - with no timeline or “lift” of when their battle will end - just to be able to eat and provide a life for themselves and their family. To help a person is great, but to give them the tools to help themselves is even more valuable. This can be done by provision of education, encouraging enterprise and making sure they can access appropriate and quality healthcare. This is why I’ve chosen this charity, it is not just supplying money to people who need it but provides the research required to help them to generate it back into the community further improving their economy and leading to a better standard of living for everyone.

What does the charity actually do?
