Story
As you all know, I love being active and every year I like to challenge myself to do something different.
As we are currently in lockdown due to Coronavirus, I am finding the lack of independence even more challenging than usual. I feel very trapped and unable to do much outdoor exercise on my own. For the first time in my life I feel vulnerable and am finding it difficult to stay positive. As I am not one to feel sorry for myself for too long, I have found a challenge that I can do on my own at home whilst keeping myself mentally and physically fit and raising much needed funds to ensure blind and partially sighted people like me are not forgotten during this crisis - when we need help more than ever.
In the next 26 days, I will be climbing the length of the tallest building in the world five times, the Burj Khalifa (2722 feet). Yes, you heard that right!
· 13,610 feet!
· 20,000 steps!
· 1,430 times up my stairs in total!
· 55 times up my stairs each day for 26 days!
Blind and partially sighted people like me are falling through gaps at this time of social distancing. We are not included in the ‘vulnerable’ government categories and as such are afforded little protection and support during this time. Reports of loneliness are much higher than ever before and essential tasks such as food shopping have become almost impossible for us as we are unable to ask for guiding assistance due to social distancing rules and it is impossible to get a delivery slot right now.
By donating whatever you can, you will be making a direct and positive impact on many lives. Thank you.
