The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.

Story

Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives. Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. A world with enough support to make the challenges of sight loss no barrier to fulfilling hopes and dreams.

Our small group of fundraisers all started off as Puppy Raisers for Guide Dogs for the Blind.  We take the pups into our homes aged around 7 or 8 weeks old with the aim of helping the pup develop to be a well rounded, happy, socialised and confident dog with good manners and a good understanding of basic commands.  They then move on to their early training around 18 months old.  While the pups are with us they experience many different environments such as shops and shopping centres, public transport, puppy classes, cafes and restaurants and they are always popular at fundraising events where we can share the impact these life changing dogs can make to the lives of their visually impaired owners.

So far we have fundraised to name 11 Guide Dog puppies (Beegee, Annie, Jenny, Teddy, Nicky, Yvie, Pringle, Sandi, Pebble, Zoom, Willow) after raising £27500.  We are hoping to reach the £30000 mark very soon and thank you for helping us achieve this.
