Story
The African Children's Fund was established a year ago in the spring of 2006. At that time it was being reported that while in the previous decade the rest of the world had become richer Africa and its people have become poorer. The founders of the fund believed that if Africa was to break out from this downward spiral some of the contributory factors: poverty, neglect, exploitation would have to be addressed. The burden for this change of direction would be through the efforts and achievements of Africa 's children so, through supplying food and education we aim to provide children with the basic's which so many people take for granted. Therefore, in order to give something back I have decided to take my Bianchi Touring Bike on holiday!
I will be traveling from London to Paris on 12th - 16th September 2007 to raise money for the African Childrens Charity! It’s 280 miles and will undoubtedly be a challenge of a lifetime! My target sponsorship is £1100, not a lot when you think of the mess we are making of the world!!!!!!
The itinerary is as follows:
DAY 1: Cycle from London through Kent and North Downs to Dover; ferry to Calais
DAY 2: Quiet winding roads and beautiful old market towns to Abbeville
DAY 3: Follow River Somme and mainly flat tree-lined roads to Beauvais
DAY 4: Rural countryside and villages to outskirts of Paris; finish under Eiffel Tower
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: African Children's Fund will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
