Story
After years of witnessing the devastating affects that Parkinson’s disease had on my paternal grandmother Nora and seeing the long-standing affects Alzheimer’s disease had on my maternal grandmother Muriel, it feels only right to try and raise money to help find a cure to these debilitating degenerative diseases.
I have therefore nervously entered an Ironman distance triathlon which consists of swimming 2.4miles, cycling 112 miles and running 26.22 miles!!!
I started my training for this event in Dec 2020 and there have already been some tough days in this cold weather.
I have decided to do this torturous event in the hope to raise money to support the team of experts who have been appointed at Nottingham Trent University. This team has been created to explore new and innovative methods to bring about change in the prognosis of these debilitating degenerative diseases.
As you may or may not know, there is no cure for Alzheimers, Dementia or Parkinsons. Current treatment options to slowdown the symptoms for people suffering from ADP, range from drugs that help to boost the chemicals in the brain that pass on messages, to alternative therapies and counselling that help people to come to terms with the condition and its implications. For people diagnosed with dementia there is no way to reverse the damage that has been sustained or to halt the progress of the disease. Treatment plans focus on trying to slow down progression of the disease, coming to terms with the diagnosis and putting personalised plans for care in place. There is a real need to find a cure for this life-changing and life-limiting condition.
I would be grateful if you can make a donation which will be in aid of the research that is being undertaken at Nottingham Trent University.
I will be keeping a daily blog of my training which you can follow on my IG and FB page. Any donation you can give will not only be for a good cause but will also be motivating me to keep moving, especially on those long gruelling training sessions!!
