Miles for Mums & Babies Challenge · 27 April 2021

Action on Postpartum Psychosis supports women and families affected by Postpartum Psychosis (PP) across the UK. We provide information and peer support, facilitate research into PP, raise awareness of this rare yet severe postnatal mental illness and campaign for improved services.

Story

Throughout May, Rawat-Sharma family, meaning Puneet, me, Mia and Ruhaan,  will be walking/running/jumping/crawling 500 miles in aid of Miles for Mums & Babies challenge by APP.

Mother & Baby units are specialist in-patient unit for some women with mental health problems during pregnancy, or after the birth of their child. These are like gold dusts and there are still regions in the UK that do not have a local unit.

We have chosen 500 miles because : It’s just under 500 miles to cycle from NHS Lothian Livingston Mother and Baby Unit in Scotland to Jasmine Lodge Mother and Baby Unit in Devon (494 miles). Many mums and babies travel hundreds of miles to be together whilst mum is treated in hospital for a severe maternal mental illness. Dads, partners, families and friends can have to travel hundreds of miles back and forth to visit mum and baby.
