I am taking part in the Great North Run this year to raise money for the British Lung Foundation. This is a charity close to my heart as my father in law was diagnosed with Mesothelioma last summer. He retired at the end of July last year and, a week later, took my children on holiday to Spain. Whilst on holiday he became ill and, once home, was told he had Mesothelioma. This is an extremely aggressive form of terminal cancer which affects the lining of the lung and is caused by asbestos exposure. There are very few treatments available and those that are can only serve to hopefully prolong life and are not a cure. There is much research and many trials being carried out to try and find a suitable form of treatment for this specific type of cancer and I would like to raise as much money as possible to help with this.
