In 2010, Phil will be running a marathon in two halves and I will be running just the one (half that is)!  Phil's first half is at Reading on 21 March and then we are both running the Mull of Kintyre 1/2 Marathon at the end of May.  This will be my first 1/2 marathon and Phil's second and we are both already training hard.

Some of you may know that Phil's dad, John Irving, sadly died in the summer of 2009 after suffering a number of brain haemorrhages.  Anyone who knew John would understand what a huge gap he has left in our lives - we especially miss his wicked sense of humour.  Whilst he was ill the Brain and Spine Foundation was really helpful to us and so we would like to run for them and in John's memory.

I think one of the most startling statistics I have learned is that more people die or are left severely disabled by neurological disorders than by either heart disease or cancer - around 8,000 people suffer from a brain haemorrhage in the UK every year.  The Brain and Spine Foundation, conduct all-important research into conditions of the nervous system and also support people and families who are living with these conditions.
