Story
On Friday the 3rd of November 2017, Martin Campbell, a very close friend of mine, had received news that his son had developed cancer.
5-Year-old Freddie Campbell had been diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). This heart crushing news shook the Campbell family, though they remained strong and filled themselves with positivity, proceeding with the treatment process which included Chemotherapy.
Freddie has now been receiving treatment for just short of a year and has so far been reacting well to the treatment. Freddie’s daily life is now filled with a schedule of medication, frequent doctor visits and vast amounts of fatigue – but despite this, Freddie pursues the life of an ordinary 5-year-old, going to school and actively playing with his brother and sister – proving that he is nothing short of a symbol of hope, resilience and fortitude.
From the moment Freddie had gotten diagnosed, the Campbell family has been consistently receiving support, advice and aid from the Candlelighters – a charity specialising in supporting families with children that have cancer. It wasn’t until Martin told me that he was
receiving their support that I knew of the existence. With this charity event, I aim to not only raise awareness of the amazing work Candlelighters do, but also raise as much funds as possible to support their remarkable work.
Martin, you are the most positive, motivational, strongest, courageous
and inspirational person I have ever met – only to be matched by your son. I look forward to the celebration we have when Freddie has kicked the backside of cancer!
