In memory of Shona Eaton

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.

Story

As many of you are aware I lost my sister Shona to SEPSIS in August 2020. To honour Shona’s memory and to continue to raise awareness of the symptoms of SEPSIS, I will participate in the Saltire 24 ultra marathon on June 10th/11th. Shona was 50 when she died, I am now 50 and my goal will be to run 50 miles….. any additional will be a bonus!

I will be supporting 2 charities, Sepsis Research FEAT and UK SEPSIS Trust, both work tirelessly to raise awareness of SEPSIS, support those bereaved, those who survived with FEAT supporting research to understand the processes that lead to sepsis.  Sepsis accounts for around 50,000 deaths in the UK every year - please support me in continuing to raise awareness of the symptoms which will help save someone’s life in the future.
