Story
Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives. Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. A world with enough support to make the challenges of sight loss no barrier to fulfilling hopes and dreams.
About five years ago, following a nasty health scare I sorted out my life fitness wise. Long walks were followed by a desire to run, which in turn became races, distance markers and further challenges. Losing a good friend reminded me how precious health is and set me up for the ultimate challenge, a marathon. An undertaking like this was an obvious fundraiser and for me it always had to involve dogs! For me, as a lifelong outside girl, the worst thing would be to lose my sight so the obvious choice was to fundraise for Guide Dogs for the Blind and six months ago I was lucky enough to be offered a marathon place by the Guide Dog Association.
If you feel this is a cause you could contribute to I will be very grateful. If not then your good wishes and support will keep me going through the hundreds (yes hundreds!!) of miles of training needed to complete those 26.2 miles on 22nd April 2018. Thank you 😀
