Story
Covid-19 has had a devastating impact on communities and families across Nottingham. But for survivors after the initial infection has passed, the longer-term impacts are far less understood. This is where Long Covid Research comes in.
Our Long Covid Research Appeal will help clinicians, scientists and researchers at Nottingham hospitals support patients who are still experiencing the effects of Covid-19 weeks, months and potentially over a year later.
The more we understand Long Covid, the better our hospitals can treat it. With your support, our researchers can help improve treatment and quality of life for Long Covid patients here in Nottingham and across the UK.
With this Appeal, we want to raise £50,000 to fund critical research into Long Covid, with the team of researchers in Nottingham leading the way.
As a local GP I’ve seen first hand the impacts of Long Covid on our Notts patients and am keen to do my bit to fundraise to support the much needed research into this important area
I have entered to run this year's Canalslam challenge which involves 3 non-stop ultra distance races taking place over the Summer
• GUCR - Running non-stop 145 miles from Birmingham to London in May
•KACR - Running non-stop 145 miles from London to Bristol in July
•LLCR - Running non-stop 130 miles from Liverpool to Leeds in August
So far only 2 women have successfully completed this challenge since it’s inception so it is not for the faint hearted.
That said unlike many patients and friends post Covid, I can run at the moment which is itself a privilege I never take for granted. I look forward to the journey & the learning along the way and if these efforts can support much needed research into Long Covid the time, energy and pain will be worth it.
If you feel you are able to support with a donation that is much appreciated. Even if this isn’t possible a kind word & on-going encouragement would also be amazing!
Here’s to an exciting 2021 adventure - hopefully I will end with as many toenails as I started 😂
