Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2015 & 2016 I will be attempting 3 endurance events to raise money for the Colonel's Fund Grenadier Guards. As I served in the Grenadier Guards from 16 yrs old, the organisation has helped many of my friends & collegues so it is a charity close to my heart. I still have friends serving in the regiment so I still hear first hand of their work and people they help.

On April 19th 2015 I will be completing the Greater Manchester Marathon as a training run because in 2016 I will be attempting a half marathon to break the Guinness World Record as "The fastest half marathon dressed as an American football player". To make this official I have to wear a full face NFL helmet, thigh, hip & knee pads, jersey, knee high socks and athletic supporter.  All the kit they  would wear in an NFL game,  adding a considerable amount of extra weight to myself and also the disadvantage of not being able to remove the helmet to drink or cool down and complete in less than 3hrs 45 mins 30 seconds, which is the current record.

3 weeks later on the 10th May 2015 I will be attempting to break the World record as "The fastest 10k run dressed as an American Football player". Not thats its going to be easy in any way, but I'm using this as trial run for the marathon and make sure everything goes well over 6 miles, before I attempt 26 miles. I have to wear all the same equipment and like the marathon get video evidence, photos every 1 mile etc, hence why I want to get this right before I compete in the marathon.

The third event is 10 weeks later on the 19th July 2015  which is an Ironman Triathlon. This is a 2.4 mile open water swim followed by 112 miles on a bicycle then a full 26.2 mile marathon with a cut off time of 17 hours for all 3 disciplines, taking part on the border of the Pennine Moors so an extremely hilly part of the country, just incase the challenge wasn't hard enough in the first place.

These are on their own difficult events, however the week I left the Army I found out I had Type 1 diabetes, so this means I have to constantly monitor my blood sugar levels and inject insulin when I eat to do the job my pancreas no longer does. So during physical activity this becomes more difficult as your blood sugars are constantly dropping.

During the 3 events I will be covering over 172 miles, and 140 of this will be in 1 day. Not including the months of training.

For the World Record attempt TV presenter Vernon Kay put me in touch with Football America UK and they have kindly offered to loan and donate all the American Football kit needed to complete the challenge and assist in the printing of the details on my jersey so this is a huge cost saved and greatly appreciated.

I am hoping to raise at least £1000 so please share this page with anyone or company who you may feel will help me reach my target.

Kind regards
