Story

I will be running the London Marathon on 23 April 2017 to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) and neonatal ward at Warwick Hospital and also the new Midwife Led Unit that the hospital proposes to open.

Our baby daughter, Elina, was born prematurely at Warwick Hospital in August 2016 and spent the first days of her life in the SCBU.  She and I received much-needed care and support from many staff during this time.  We want to help raise funds to say thank you and hope that it will help to ensure that other families receive the same high level of care.

This marathon is a particularly big challenge for me given my recent bill of health and fitness levels. Training has been difficult with a small (but constantly hungry!) baby and has involved running in the freezing cold, in the pouring rain, late at night, and with a leg injury. However, running the London Marathon has always been a dream and I aim to finish all 26.2 miles to show Elina that she can achieve anything if she tries hard enough.

About the charity

The South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust Charitable fund is a well-established fund which helps to finance some services, equipment and enhancements that would not normally be expected in an NHS hospital. We are grateful to our fundraisers and supporters for their donations.
