Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our page.

This September, 9 members of NMRUFC will be running the Robin Hood Half Marathon, raising funds for the University of Nottingham Breast Cancer Research Centre. We are personally invested in supporting this charity, due to its connection with the Medschool and through some of our own experiences as well.

Currently, the centre’s research is aimed at:

  • Developing the world’s first blood test for early detection of breast cancer.
  • Researching methods of stopping the spread of breast cancer around the body.
  • Developing treatments for patients with all forms of the disease.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer within the UK, and currently about one in eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. Whilst research has made significant progress, with 80% of patients surviving for 10 years or more; each day in the UK, 140 women are still diagnosed with breast cancer, with 10,000 dying each week.
