Ollie and Friends' Wales Coast Walk · 19 July 2021

Sadly, thousands of families in Wales live every day knowing their child’s life will be short. At the moment, they often face this without any care or support. Alone. Afraid. Isolated. Tŷ Hafan’s ambition is that when a child’s life will be short, no family should have to live it on their own.

Story

I am in my mid-fifties, overweight, and looking for a new challenge after recently taking early retirement. I spent 31 years in a sedentary office job and decided that I needed to make some lifestyle changes to improve my physical and mental health. Throughout my adult life I have suffered from bouts of anxiety and depression. I am determined that in retirement I should do all I can to try and promote my own well-being. I started walking regularly in my newly found free time and this long-distance walk is a natural consequence.

I will be walking the entire length of the Wales Coastal Path from Chester to Chepstow. It's journey of 870 miles, I hope to average at least 15 miles a day and it should take me about 2 months. I'm very excited about seeing the whole of Wales' beautiful coastline in all its variety.

It is important to me that the walk should have benefits for others, as well as myself. I am proud to have the opportunity to raise money for Ty Hafan, a most deserving cause urgently needing public support.

I am lucky to have some very good friends who will be supporting and walking with me along the way. A special mention needs to be made of Jon Francis and Chris Lodwig, who will be with me for much of the journey.

Jon's company,  SIP Wealth Management, has also generously pledged a substantial donation and offered other invaluable assistance.

I also rely on the love and support of my lovely wife, Wendy, and beautiful daughter, Carys. I hope that together we can help Ty Hafan in their aim of making a short life a full life.

All donations, no matter how small, will be very gratefully received. Thank you!
