An earthquake followed by a tsunami struck Indonesia leaving behind a trail of destruction. Now, hundreds of thousands of survivors are in urgent need of food, water and shelter

Story

On the 28th of September a devastating magnitude 7.5 earthquake
struck Lombok Island in Indonesia. This was soon followed by a rapid and destructive tsunami. So far the death toll for this disaster has
reached over 1,400, with at least 1000 more people currently unaccounted for and over 800 seriously injured. A volcanic eruption nearby is also hampering rescue efforts. This all comes just over 6 weeks after an earlier deadly series of earthquakes weakened buildings in the area and killed over 400.

The people of Indonesia are in desperate need of help and support. Access to villages has been cut off and people are starving, unable to get help. It is estimated that at least 80,000 people are now homeless and have lost everything in this disaster. The students at Long Eaton Campus would like to help.

On the 9th of October Y7 and Y8 are running a day of fundraising including an assembly, a cake sale and a breakfast. However the main challenge they have set themselves is a huge one - both classes have volunteered to complete a sponsored silence from 9am (once they've completed their assembly) to 3pm. This is a difficult challenge and one which they hope you will support to help them to raise money to support the people of Indonesia.

A donation of £30 is enough to provide an emergency shelter for a family. £50 will feed, clothe and shelter a family for a month. However, every donation helps and we would be grateful for any amount. Please help.

If you would like to sponsor them in their challenge, please donate through this page. Thank you.
