Our beautiful daughter, Orla, was born sleeping at 37 weeks, weighing 7lb 1oz on 17th September 2021. 

The SPRING rooms at Poole Maternity Unit allowed us to spend precious time with our little girl and build memories together, including being able to introduce Orla to her wonderful grandparents. The rooms provided us with a private and quiet space away from the labour ward where we could spend time as a family - this was invaluable support during such a difficult time. 

SPRING has helped us in many ways already. We received help and support from a wonderful team of bereavement midwives at the hospital who will continue to help us as we navigate the journey we never thought we would be on. They gave us a memory box filled with ways to cherish and remember Orla and provided access to a beautiful private garden where we were able to have precious family photos taken together.

We hope that no other family should ever need them, but sadly their help is needed more often than we ever knew or wanted to think about. We are so grateful for the support provided by SPRING during the most difficult time of our lives.

SPRING was established in 1998 to provide support to parents and relatives who have experienced the death of a baby during pregnancy, at, or just after birth. This includes miscarriage, stillbirth and termination for foetal abnormality. Over the years SPRING has evolved to help many families and friends through such devastating times.SPRING is part of University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity (Registered Charity Number 1057366) and is overseen by a steering group which includes bereaved parents and caring, committed professionals all of whom are passionate about SPRING and matters surrounding baby loss. We are based at St. Marys Maternity Unit at Poole Hospital and cover Bournemouth, Poole and surrounding areas.The aim of SPRING is to support through grief at the point of loss, delivery and beyond. SPRING works closely with medical professionals to help provide a high level of care to bereaved families, alongside regular NHS services.
