On 9th July 2013 mine and my family's world changed forever. As some of you may or may not know my wonderful auntie was diagnosed with advanced stage breast cancer 3 months after giving birth to our beautiful Eleanor. She also had our lovely William who was 2 at the time of diagnosis. I remember being with my grandma when my uncle called and broke the news and then having to phone my mum and the r...est of my family to tell them that my 37 year old auntie had cancer. I know I shouldn't and I didn't say at the time, but all I kept thinking was she's going to die and what am I going to do to protect those two beautiful babies. Little did we know the next 8 months were going to be the hardest fight of our lives so far. Nicola started Chemotherapy straight away and 5 months later had a 12 hour operation to have a mastectomy and reconstruction just before Christmas. She has recently undergone radiotherapy and will have treatment for the next 5 years as a precaution, but we are so pleased to say she beat that bastard! Throughout her horrible journey a charity called 'Mummy's Star' supported her by providing advice and someone to talk to as well as a grant to help pay for extra sessions at William's nursery so she could attend hospital appointments and just have some time to rest. They focus on supporting women with cancer throughout pregnancy or in the first year from birth. Not once in the past 8 months has Nicola let it get her down or complained. She's carried on being the amazing mum and person she is and now we all want to give something back. We are holding a charity ball on 15th October 2016 to raise money for 'Mummy's Star' and we need help from you lovely people to make it happen. As well as asking for raffle and auction prizes and your company at the ball we understand some of you may not be able to attend but wish to donate to this amazing cause!
