Story

On the 22nd May 2010 I am setting off from Lands End to cycle 1000 miles up to John O'Groats, within 8 days. This means riding an average of 125 miles a day!

I am doing this ride in memory of Mike and Dot Hall, two great friends of mine who were tragically killed by an avalanche while walking in the French Pyrenees.

Mike and I were great climbing and mountaineering partners, scaling the heights of Mont Blanc and the Cullin Ridge together. Mike was a very upbeat character and there was always a lot of banter between us.

Both Mike and Dot were professional musicians and Mike was a long established member of the Halle Orchestra.

Friends and colleagues of the Halle set up the 'Mike and Dot Memorial Fund' to help raise money for Buskaid, a charity which raises money to give impoverished black children in South Africa the chance to learn stringed instruments. With the money raised, they plan to buy a few good instruments to donate to the music school. They decided that this was a very fitting way in which to celebrate the lives of two such fantastic people.

As well as being established string players, they were commited to music education, helping run projects around the world and Dot also did a lot of couselling work and fundraising for CAFOD.

This ride is going to be a tough challenge for me and I would appreciate any support you can give, to help keep Mike and Dots memory living on and help these impoverished youngsters achieve their dreams, but also to help keep me going when the going gets tough - and it will get really tough!!
