Story
Liam Finazzi 5 year old cousin of mine has recently been diagnosed with Burkitt's Leukemia - a relative rare form of Leukemia (blood cancer) in which too many B lymphocytes form in the blood and bone marrow. Liam is battling hard and maintains a great spirit despite the lumbar punctures, chemotherapy and the pain, lethargy and hair loss that it results in. On asking Liam and his family requested fundraising for the efforts of Ward 15, Birmingham Children's Hospital. Therefore, I am undertaking the Freedom Trail or Le Chemin de la libertė (Saint-Girons to Sort). One of several escape routes through the Pyrenees for approximately 35,000 allied prisoners of war, civilians and maquis during WWII most. Over 7 days in September 2017 we will retrace the route 75 years after it was established. We will traverse peaks above 2500m along its length as we remember how terrifying it must have been all those years ago with the threat of exposure, betrayal, capture and ultimately death. Our journey will be easy by comparison.
All money raised will be donated to the hospital as wished by Liam and his family. We all wish Liam a speedy recovery.
