Story
To All :) My special son Aaron was autistic with mild epilepsy,he died 5th january 2012 of SUDEP (epilepsy) it was unexpected as we never knew someone could die of mild epilepsy and was never told about SUDEP. SUDEP is sudden unexpected death in epilepsy and can happen to anyone with any type of epilepsy although we were never made aware of this. If we were told Aaron could of died of mild epilepsy we could of bought him a bed alarm and made sure he was on the right dose of medication. We were also unaware that every time he had a fit,it was making him more brain damage and being autistic he couldnt tell us if he was in pain. December 2011 he saw his consultant and was given an EGG and MRI scan which came back no need for concern, however in his letter it said that Aaron had moved during the scan so may not have been an accurate reading, having a learning disability he should have been medication before his MRI scan to make sure he kept still this would have made sure he had an accurate reading. We are fundraising to make people more aware of SUDEP and that you can die of mild epilepsy,if we as a family knew this we could of helped him more and maybe he would still be here,we now know that epilepsy and autism in most cases are linked so would like to make more people aware of this. Aaron was a larger than life character who is sadly missed and we want to make everyone aware of SUDEP so know one else will have to go through the pain and heartbreak we are still going through.Everyone with epilepsy should be given this information by the health proffessionals so there aware all epilepsy is fatal, sadly we believe Aaron was overlooked as he was special needs.
