Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 22nd February 2016 my Dad, John Sullivan, passed away. Myself, my wife and our four children had been with him and my mum the day before and left around tea time after a day of family time together.
At 6:30am the next day my Mum phoned to say Dad had gone missing having left the house in the middle of the night. A normal Monday morning getting ready for work soon turned in to the worst day of my life and a day I will remember every detail of forever. To this day we still don’t know what happened but we believe Dad was sleepwalking and headed off on the route he used to take, at the same time of day, when he worked as a postman.
A call was put in to the police and four hours later Dad was found in the river Usk, Llanfoist where we believe he thought he was walking in to work. Words will never be able to describe the feelings on that day and still, 2 years on, I miss him more than ever. That feeling of sitting our children down that evening and telling them that they would not be able to see their Pappy any more is something I will never forget and one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.
For anyone that knew Dad and was lucky enough to have him in their life they would tell you what a kind, caring and lovely human being he was. Life really is not the same without him here for any of us. Like we have said to our children, their Pappy is a star now and you can guarantee he is the brightest one up there.
I wanted to set myself a challenge in memory of Dad and try to raise money for a good cause. I have picked SARA (Seven Area Rescue Association) because of the fantastic work they do on a daily basis. Organisations such as this do everything they possibly can to protect and react to emergencies to give families the best possible outcome. Unfortunately in our case this was not possible but the speed that all of the emergency services responded and did everything they possibly could on the 22nd February 2016 was exceptional. Hopefully any money raised will help other families in the future and any donations received really would be appreciated.
Thank you for taking time to read this. Love you to the stars and back Dad .... x
