We are running our very first half marathon in October 2018 for the Sick Children’s Trust (SCT) a charity that provides wonderful, free accommodation for families of sick children in hospital.
Paula’s story... My husband and I found it very hard to conceive, finally after a few years we fell pregnant. I had a lovely pregnancy and could not wait for our baby to arrive. Unfortunately, the birth was not so easy, after a very long agonising labour our baby arrived but she had meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS). This is where a baby has a poo inside the mother and it mixes with the amniotic fluid. When the baby comes out their airways can become blocked and breathing limited, or stopped. This is what happened to Lily and she was emergency transferred to the NICU unit at the Rosie Hospital at Addenbrookes without us. This was the most agonising thing for us, I had not even held my little girl at this stage.
In the whirlwind of it all we arrived in Cambridge, just wanting to be with Lily. We had not given anything else a thought, let alone where we would stay!! Thankfully, Abi from SCT found us and showed us to Chestnut House where we stayed for the following week whilst we visited Lily through the day and night. Had it not been for the SCT I think we would have just slept on the floor in the hospital!
Thankfully Lily made a full recovery and is a happy & healthy little girl.
I am so thankful for Chestnut House and this is why we, myself and Bev (my sister-in-law), want to raise as much money as possible for this wonderful charity!
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
