On May 27th 2001, I was hit by a car whilst on my bike training for a triathlon. I suffered a spinal cord injury which effectively left me paralysed from the waist down. Over the last 20 years, I have been fortunate to continue my career as a police officer, compete in several sporting events and live a full and incredibly rewarding life. This is in no small part due to the help of Aspire, a charity very close to my heart. The support and opportunities provided by Aspire in the days and months after my injury were invaluable both in terms of my mental and physical health.

In August this year, I will be one of a team of six, attempting to swim the Channel. Apart from the obvious challenges (cold water, no wetsuits allowed, jelly fish 🥶😳), my training has yet to begin in earnest due to an operation for a bone infection which resulted in a three month hospital stay Dec 2020 to March 2021. Nevertheless, I am determined to complete this challenge and do my part to ensure others can benefit from Aspire’s incredible work
