Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In September of 2017 I will be walking from France to Spain over the Pyrenees. The hike will take 4 days and we will reach heights of over 2500m. We will follow the route known as "le Chemin de la Liberté" and was used by thousands of service men and women and also refugees during the second world war. For the service personnel, it was the last significant stage of their escape from occupied Europe. Having spent the last weeks, months and sometimes years on the run, hiding with brave locals who risked certain death if they were found to be helping them, they were faced with the task of walking out of France into neutral Spain. This, I'm sure, will be hard enough in September with complete walking gear and safety kit available. It's hard to believe what it must have been like 70 years ago, only walking at night, all year round and only with the clothes that have been provided to replace your uniform.
I am doing this for the Royal British Legion who i'm sure you will all of heard of. They provide tremendous support for service personnel and their families. They do far more than I can fit into this section so if you want to read more about the lifelong support that they provide, follow this link: http://www.britishlegion.org.uk
